I am so excited to tell you about something that I'm participating in for the first time this year!
It's called One Little Word. It's a challenge by blogger, Ali Edwards, to choose a word (action, verb, noun…anything) something that you need more of in your life, something that challenges you, something that maybe even scares you a little bit when you think about it, and commit to focusing on it throughout the entire year and watch how it changes your life.
I've never been great at resolutions but I do find great value in challenging myself to constantly be growing in one way or another, hence my attraction to the idea. I know it is inevitable that we grow through life circumstances but I can't help but think it's good to work towards the change I want to see in myself as well.
(Read about why I changed my word here.)
I'm getting butterflies just thinking about it…butterflies full of excitement, anticipation, hesitancy and of course, fear. :)
What will this year hold, how will focusing on this one little-big word shape me, mold my decisions, my goals, my attitude?…
I decided that to stay focused on my word I would join Ali's year long on-line workshop where she sends writing and creative prompts each month to keep you thinking about and acting on your word.
As I added my name to the list of participants I got excited…this is an incredible opportunity for an exciting personal journey this year…who knows what can happen…and then almost instantly the fear creeps in…(what if this is all a waste, what if nothing changes, what if I have too high of expectations, am too specific, expect perfection, am disappointed again like so often in life…blah, blah, blah.) STOP!
This is why I chose my word… (That peek into my thoughts was scary, right!?…I'll try to keep that to a minimum, ha!)
One thing I do know is that in the last two days, scratch that, in the last few minutes just writing this…thinking and talking through and committing to my word, contemplating my deep connection and draw to it, I realize that I have already learned a lot about myself and why I act and re-act the ways I do. So bring on the year….here's to being fearless in 2014. Here's to the scary unknown!!
Hopefully I'll be sharing more about how I plan to incorporate my word and some specific goals I have in future posts. 🙂
Are you choosing a word or idea to focus on this year!? I'd love to hear about it…leave a comment!
Thanks again for sharing in my journey!
